Tip #16
DO the craft you have been intending to do for...how long?
I'm sure not everyone has crafts stored away for a rainy day, but I did. Grudgingly, I looked at how long I had craft "things", i.e. an 'in process' quilt(10 years...), scrapbooking supplies (10+ years...), children's crafts(8 years...), and I figured if I hadn't used it/completed it yet, it probably wasn't high on my list of priorities.
Because I was downsizing to a tiny house and not just decluttering, I made it a priority to work on some of kids crafts with my kids, then I donated my other crafting things to friends. I did keep all the 'in process' scrapbooks I had and I finished them with those "scraps" I showed in a previous post.
Now, please don't get me wrong, if those crafts had been my therapy I would have made room for them in my tiny house. However, my therapy is baking, so instead of crafty things I saved my Kitchen Aid :)
So, do that craft or donate it, and hopefully like me, you'll feel the burden of an unfinished project lift from your shoulders!
We've been in our not-at-all-tiny fixer upper for 6 years now and it seems like it's NEVER going to be done. I'm realizing that a huge part of this is that for every three things we complete, we pick up supplies for, print off plans for, even sometimes START five more projects. There is so much truth to what you're saying.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I knew we couldn't be the only ones! ;) our old house was semi-done by the time we were ready to sell :D
ReplyDeleteI don't have much in the way of craft stuff. Now, I could probably sew a family of four a wardrobe for a weekend vacation, but I couldn't craft much of anything. BG likes to craft. Poor kid is limited to one drawer in a small dresser. If it doesn't fit, she can't keep it. But stuff is still all over my house, sometimes...
ReplyDeleteI saw a really cool tiny house built for a lady who sews as a hobby. I totally thought of you! They had a multi use dining table that had a sewing machine hidden under the end that came up to create a whole sewing center and they had all these special places for thread, material, etc. :)
DeleteThat sounds AWESOME! I wouldn't even need to live in a tiny house for that to be a dream! I never seem to have enough time to sew any more...but I keep buying patterns. You know, for "that day."
