Window Trim

My husband started in on framing the windows today.  He has spent the last week trimming the wall around the windows in preparation for the trim.

These are a couple "before trim" pictures:

Here's a before picture of an upstairs window and the after picture of an upstairs window:

Please ignore the bunny ear photo bomber :P.

The frame is sanded down 2x4's which we will Varethane when we do all the the paneling in the house.  I was afraid the 2x4's would look clunky but they fit right in.  I think my husband is going to do a few of the windows with 1x4's or something like because there isn't the same amount of space around each window.

I'll take more pictures and post as more "after" pictures are ready :)

Replacing the Stolen

I had some super comfortable ergonomic Adirondack lawn chairs that I brought with us when we moved.

The were stolen last fall.  I can just imagine someone carrying them down the street.

I've really been missing those chairs now that the weather is nice and I just want to be outside.  We're trying to put all our "extra" money toward the house and I still have A LOT of pallet boards so I couldn't justify buying more chairs right now.

So I researched Pinterest and found the easiest bench possible; here's the result:

Certainly not as comfy as my Adirondack's but it works :)

Then there was the moment today when the recipe called for grated lemon peel.

I got rid of my grater.

I was planning on grating all my cheese with my food processor; kind of forgot about the occasional lemon recipe...

Did you know you can use a peeler, peel off a thin slice of the lemon peel, then cut it up with a knife and it the pie will still taste great?!  :D

I do plan on getting one of those mini-graters.
How many people can say to themselves, "I have 10 minutes till...I can get all the floors in my house clean"?

I am, OH so happy I can say and do just that!!

Found it, Fixed it

Soaking everything in it's path and spreading quickly the water from the faucet handles dripped and splashed with abandon.

Discovered and denied escape any longer the water was stopped by the installation of a new faucet and handles.

My husband left the holes in the wall open to keep an eye on the pipes for possible water escapes.

Here's our new shower head and faucet, much nicer than the previous cheap plastic one, and as always there's a story here:

When my husband first saw the previous shower head and handles, his very first comment was "those are so cheap; they're just going to break".  Typical response from my analytical husband.  I responded in typical me fashion: "but they're already installed and you'd have to take the wall apart to change them out".

We did get to move into our house sooner than we would have if we'd changed that faucet out early on, but no new construction was done this whole last weekend.

All in all, I am thankful we can live in our tiny house right now despite the trial of living in a unfinished tiny house while you are trying to finish it.

Finders Fixers

When you see THIS

sneaking out the bottom of the door frame next to the shower

you know that this

and this

will not remain the same for long;

there must be a leak somewhere

and IT MUST BE FOUND.

So, while dad finds the leak, we attended a birthday party where this guy (and a lot of other reptilian friends) were present.

It was an amazing day for the house to be crowded with all the finding and fixing and moving shelves and counters and stuff.

My daughter, my son and their friends rode bikes.

The kids played with the ducks, goats and bunnies.

Oh, yes, let me introduce you to the newest members of our tiny farm!

This is Shine (because she is dark and Jesus shines in the dark):

This is Camo  (can you guess whose he is and who named him?):

These are my boots:

I did a lot of sitting and walking around
semi-participating in the kids activities today.

In this shot I'm sitting in the kids fort/tree sort-of participating in their game of make-believe-we're-a-family
and taking pictures of random things.

Like this shot...I thought this one was just cool:

The kids just love this tree and the "fort" it has naturally built.

We got lots of time outdoors and enjoyed every minute!

Movie Night with Friends

Who knew you could live with 2 kids in a Tiny House AND have their friends over for the night??

The kids loved swinging on the swing, playing on the cargo net, visiting all the animals outside, flipping upside down in the hammock and now we're topping it all off with movie night in the tiny house.

And just think, our house isn't even finished yet!

Oh and can't forget my vice :)

As happens every spring,
the more time we spend outside the messier the inside of my house gets.

Except this spring
I can actually keep up on the inside cleaning while spending hours and hours outside taking care of the garden and the animals!

I love this because I just hate spending glorious time out in the sunshine only to come inside and see mess that needs to be cleaned.  One big draw of having a tiny house was less cleaning and I have got to say, this is one draw this is totally paying off.

Of course it has really helped that my husband isn't cutting wood or doing projects indoors anymore: this seriously cuts down on the constant dust which was becoming a huge pain.  Not only am I not having to clean up the constant dust (and, frankly, half the time I didn't because I knew it would just get dusty again in a couple hours) but I also don't have to clean every-single-dish-every-single-time I use it (can you tell I was getting just a little tired of doing that???).

I still have to do the dishes, sweep and vacuum the floors, wash windows, clean the shower, etc.  but there's a lot less of each to clean.
Even dishes are less because we just have less of them.

So, then I go clean the church building because I miss cleaning...not!  I do that as a ministry but I do find it kind of ironic that I got a tiny house so I don't have to clean as much and now I clean as a ministry...there's humor here somewhere!

Over all though
I am so glad I only have a tiny house to clean
and
I'm loving all the time I get to spend outside!

Cleaning the floor of a tiny house

Not much to say about this, except that it only took me UNDER 10 minutes to sweep then vacuum!  With a hand broom and handheld vacuum no less!

I am SO happy about the cleaning time required for our tiny house!
