Rapids!!!

Today made me rethink my "switchbacks" analogy for our current adventure.  Today made me think we were hitting the rapids head on!  Well, maybe if I stick with my "switchbacks" analogy, I can say that this switch back led us straight across a raging river!  But "In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).  The trailer that was ordered won't be in on time to meet out deadline so Tiny Heights Homes is going to try to use our trailer to build the tiny house on.  This is great news because 1) we won't have a 24' utility trailer sitting around waiting for a new project and 2) we won't have to spend the money to get a new trailer!!  Thank you Tiny Heights for working with us to stay in budget and keep to the deadline!  The raging river part was learning at 9:30am this morning that I needed to figure out how to get our trailer to them by tomorrow!  Finally found a truck rental place in Portland, begged a ride off my sweet cousin, picked up the truck, met C. at the trailer, helped him ready all the extra building supplies (might as well see if Tiny Heights can use them!), prepped the trailer for travel and finally got back home to pack for our vacation.  Oh, did I mention we are going on vacation tomorrow??  I think we're ready to go, I HOPE we're ready to go, because we're leaving before the sun rises tomorrow!  Thankfully the guys as Tiny Heights are going to meet us halfway, we'll take the truck back and then head out for what we hope will be a wonderful break for all of us.  If you read this before tomorrow evening please join me in praying that the trailer and all those traveling tomorrow will have safety!

"Rough drafts"

I had a great conversation with Rob at Tiny Heights Homes yesterday; all about plans for our tiny house!  C. and I are both very excited about our home being built.  We got the first rough draft from Tiny Heights today and I'm happy that they are going to be using a lot of windows AND are able to use a window I bought specifically for my kitchen.

I'm so thankful I get to spend time talking to my dad.  One of my best memories is when he drove with me to Reno so I could attend a friends wedding.  I'll never forget the good times we had just visiting on that trip.  Today I got to show him our tiny house plans from the builder and talk about the pros and cons of Tiny Houses and the investment possibilities for builders.   As the conversation ended, Dad mentioned a verse that had been on my mind to share today: "The mind of man plans his way but the Lord directs his steps." (Prov. 16:9)  Since last year the Lord has redirected our steps so many times (and in so many unexpected ways!) that I'm calling the redirections "switchbacks" on our trail!

What has happened today

A lot has happened on this "Tiny House" journey.  I'll give some history later.  Today though, I heard  from Jarod from Tiny Heights Homes in Idaho:  our trailer has been ordered and should be there in two weeks.  Tiny Heights is going to pre-fab as much as they can in order to speed up the build when the trailer comes in.  I'm very excited to be working with Tiny Heights Homes and am looking forward to seeing what they put together from the VERY rough sketches we sent them.  One thing we do know: we want LOTS of opening windows and I'm sure Jarod is a little tired of me stressing this point!

For today we are rejoicing that we got to spend time walking, riding bikes, having lunch together and hiding "Whiskers" in pictures (he's in all of the shots below :) ).  Now that I have figured out how to write this blog (sort of!), I will try to spend some time in the next week sharing a few of the switch backs that have led us to where we are now!
